Berghaus

Cutting through the sameness of the outdoor category with a truer idea: nature can't be controlled, only met prepared.

→ Culture

Berghaus has spent most of its life selling through retailers rather than to the people who wear it. The outdoor category, meanwhile, sells a fantasy of mastery. The conquered summit, the perfect controlled shot, the human on top of nature. It's dishonest and exhausting, and it's the same across every brand.

The truth of being outdoors is that you don't control it. The weather does what it wants. What you can do is be prepared, which happens to be the entire point of the product. Berghaus also had things its rivals only borrow, a real place in British music and subculture, fifty years of genuine innovation, none of which was showing.

→ Creativity

We made the weather a character in the story rather than a backdrop. The outdoors is chaotic, imperfect and impossible to stage, so the awareness work embraces that chaos. Loud, alive, unposed, treating bad conditions as part of the appeal rather than something to airbrush out.

The conversion work does the opposite on purpose. Stripped back, calmer, fewer poses, less movement, letting the product carry its own authority in the moment someone decides to buy. The design holds the tension between the two. A plain grotesque, all caps, left aligned, on a strict Swiss grid. Control set against the wildness of the imagery. The tone is British, dry and knowing.

Underneath it, a democratic shift. We rebuilt the brand's channels from scratch to stop selling the unreachable summit and start inviting people into the outdoors that begins at their own front door.
