Exhibition Design

Exhibition design and graphic design for Interpretations IIII, an exhibition held every second year that explores a new medium or process to experiment with. I re-designed the website and signage for the ongoing exhibition as well as the artist blurbs and text that were on display in the exhibition.

An open brief, to utilise the vast information collected longitudinal studies of a population in Rotterdam. Referring to the research into depression and the effects of peoples environments, the outcome aims to question what happiness means to the reader. The reader is encouraged to tear out pages that do not symbolise happiness for them. When the irrelevant pages are torn out a synopsis of a study into the affects of the activity represented are revealed.

Designed for the Powerhouse Museum in collaboration with ‘Designer Rugs’ the patterns are based on creating aesthetically pleasing textiles designs that convey the beauty of information. The infographics use data representing statistics and information on the Sydney City in the past 100 years.

Gene Expression
To mimic the replication process in genes &#38; DNA, these designs were created by experimenting with paint to create symmetrical designs for garments. Digitally printed onto white silk and cotton.

Publication design for 
Rotterdam Academy of Architecture
2012
A group project with 4 other designers for the Rotterdam Academy of Architecture annual publication. The project was very collaborative as we all mixed our ideas to form the concept of ‘Optimism’ as well as agreeing to reference the space surrounding buildings. All of the  design decisions were discussed and refined as a team. 
1500 copies were produced.

Electric Motor Company: Branding

Re-branding for Electric Motorcycle Company (EMC). The final outcomes used laser cutting, timber varnishes ans sanding to create an aged affect for the signage. I also used 3D printing to create some logos and badges for the bikes and planned the shops includng paper, pens, notebooks, chairs, materials, shirts, bags and the flowers and vases they would have.

A project to design the front and back covers for a magazine about ourselves, that showed our personality. The front cover had to include a photograph of yourself and the back cover had to be an advertisment. Both a photographic version and type only version were produced.

Social Actions
2012

Pedestrian TV wrote a great article on Alan Jones' speech at a Sydney University Young Liberals club dinner. At the dinner Jones said that the father of Australian PM Julia Gillard, had died due to the shame he felt of his daughter in relation to lying.  

I thought it was hilarious that the Sydney University Liberals Club @SULC tweeted about the success of the dinner and then later removed it when the uproar began about the speech. I took this image and printed it hundreds of times onto stickers and gave to friends to put around the place.

The Poet's Tribulation
A short story I compiled using phrases from various books about a poet struggling to find that perfect phrase. The phrases are all from books considered 'classics', but the phrases themselves I sourced from the internet, this little website questions the transfer and authenticity from print to web.

Laughing Out Loud

I really hate it when people use 'LOL' and it happens all the time, people just say it so quickly and for no reason, you're not actually laughing out loud? I made a little website where if a 'LOL' button was pressed on a keyboard, it types a little spiel I wrote on what actually happens when you laugh out loud.

For the indecisive typographer, 2choosey is influenced by the virtual explosion of typefaces and the excess of fonts already available to use, with so many options the designer is disorientated and indecisive.  processing I thought I'd give it a try myself.

This was a cape I made with some girls from school by sewing rows of blonde hair extensions onto the pattern of a cape. We then used Processing and Arduino to button so when this was pressed the fibre optics we embedded imbetween the hair in the cape would light up and vibrate. Unfortunately I don't have images of the final outcome.
